My Scraps & More Sketch #110-Guest Designer Juliana Michaels

Hello, Scrappy Friends! Today we have another talented guest sketch designer, Juliana Michaels. We asked her a few questions to get to know her a little better, and these are her answers:

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself (where you live, hobbies, blog addy, scrappy background, etc.)
I grew up in a creative household loving art, design, and making things with my hands thanks to my creative mom. She also photographed and documented things about my daily life, and she kept all of these photos neatly organized and displayed in photo albums. About 15 years ago I found my true passion in paper crafting and scrapbooking thanks to the combination of being exposed to these creative activities and the photographic documentation of my daily life. Since 2008, I have been creating and sharing paper crafting projects on my blog 17turtles. (http://www.17turtles.com/).
I have been a project designer in the paper craft/scrapbook industry since 2007 and I been fortunate to work for many top manufacturers including BoBunny, Bella Blvd, Elle's Studio, SRM Stickers, Provocraft, Pebbles, and Jillibean Soup. My projects have been published in a variety of magazines and idea books, and I have had projects displayed at the Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show. Most recently I began creating graphics and doing product design as a graphic artist for Jillibean Soup.
I am married to Danny, my best friend, and the love of my life. I am also Mom to a Golden Retriever named Lincoln, and an American Paint Horse named Woody. I have a fondness for coffee, Mexican food, turtles and antiquing. In my spare time, I enjoy running, working out, cooking, and reading science and historical fiction.

2) Tell us about your scrappy style and habits
I guess I tend to have more a clean scrappy style, but I love to play with new products, try new techniques and follow the latest trends. I almost always start by selecting the photos that I want to scrapbook and then picking products to coordinate with my photos.

3) Describe your sketch making process (i.e., do you make the sketch first or the page first? Where do you get your ideas for sketches?) When I create sketches, my sketch making process really depends on when the sketch is due! If I have time to do the layout first I will, but sometimes I do the sketch and then the layout. For this challenge, I drew the sketch first and then created my layout later.

4). What are five products/trends or techniques that are your favorite right now?
My top 5 favorite things right now are:
1. Silhouette Cameo
2. Watercoloring and/or Spray Inks
3. Gold Foil
4. Wood Veneer
5. Brush script or hand drawn lettering
