My Scraps & More Sketch #102

We are super excited to have Ashley Horton as our guest sketch designer this month.  Read below to learn some fun facts about her and to see her fun sketch.

1. Hi, guys! My name is Ashley Horton, and I live in Alabama with my hubby and our three kids. I have been scrapbooking for about 9 years now, as a traditional scrapbooker. I love the process of creating a page, and playing with paper, embellishments, die cuts, and spray mist. I am currently designing for American Crafts, Simple Stories, Hip Kit Club, and A Flair for Buttons, and I own an Etsy shop called The Cut Shoppe, which sells digital cut files. A lot of my free time is spent working on layouts or scrapbooking in some capacity, but I also enjoy reading and cooking! You can find more of my work on my Blog, ashleyhortondesigns.com.

2. I would describe my scrappy style, as someone who likes to use a lot of embellishments and create large titles. I usually like to cluster my embellishments and title near the photo on my layouts, to help draw the eye to the picture. And I also have to clean up after every layout, even if I'm starting on another one right after. I can't handle all of the clutter!!

3. My sketch making process varies based on my creativity and schedule at the time. If I'm stretched for time or creativity, I will create the sketch first because it's a quick process and gives me an immediate starting point to create a layout. Other times, if I create a layout, and it's a design I want to share, I will go back and create the sketch based on the layout. I usually draw my sketch inspiration from popular trends/shapes that are out there, and I always use the photo area as my starting point for the sketch.

4. This is always a tough question to answer because I think things change so quickly. But I definitely love using my Silhouette Cameo to create die cuts for my layouts. And an oldie but a goodie is stitching. I've always loved the look of hand-stitching on my layouts, and I recently purchased a sewing machine, so now I can add machine stitching too. I've also recently started to dabble a little more in adding watercolors and paints to my layouts. And I would say some of my favorite products right now are Flair Buttons from A Flair for Buttons and the new Fine & Dandy collection from American Crafts/Dear Lizzy!
